EMC Centera Companion Products

Because the EMC Centera is strictly an IP-based data archival device that offers no means of direct connectivity from other network servers or workstations, EMC, as well as a number of third-party organizations, have developed companion products to support the Centera.

These companion products provide methods of writing data from other servers and/or applications directly into the Centera Content Addressed Storage architecture, in the form of either a “software agent” that migrates data files from a Windows or UNIX server directly to a Centera, or in the form of a “hardware gateway” with embedded management software that provides drive letter or UNC path access to a Centera.

Other companion products include software applications that will provide backup and restore functionality to Centera at the C-Clip level, and operate in the same fashion that traditional backup products such as Networker, ArcServe, BackupExec, and Tivoli Storage Manager would operate when backing up a Windows or UNIX server to a physical tape library or VTL (virtual tape library).

Centera Backup and Recovery

EMC Centera Backup and Recovery Module (CBRM) - enables EMC Centera content to be backed up to and restored from tape, at the C-Clip level, by using industry-standard backup products including EMC NetWorker, Symantec NetBackup, and IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)

StorFirst Altus - designed specifically for EMC Centera and provides Centera replication, at the C-Clip level, to tape drives, tape libraries and Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL), essentially providing mirrored Centera functionality to lower cost devices, while maintaining data authenticity and availability.
