EMC has recently launched the 4th generation of their extremely successful Centera, the world's first magnetic hard disk-based WORM (Write Once Read Many) data storage device.

The EMC Centera provides fast, secure, on-line access to electronic business records such as scanned document and check images, statements and other computer generated reports, e-mail message archives, medical images, and many other data types requiring immediate access, while preventing unauthorized modifications and deletions to data objects, and satisfying the regulatory compliance requirements of laws such as SEC 17a-4, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and many others.

Code named Gen4, the EMC Centera now utilizes your choice of 750GB or 1TB SATA disk drives, providing the ability to store up to quadruple the number of data objects over the original generation of Centera, in the same data center footprint, significantly reducing the overall cost per TB for storing, managing, and retaining electronic documents for regulatory compliance.

In addition to the increased storage capacity of a Centera cabinet (maximum 73TB), the new version of the CentraStar operating software improves the management and self-healing capabilities of Centera systems up to 25 percent faster than previous versions, as well as improved system flexibility, security, logging, and auditing capabilities necessary for regulatory compliance.
