The spotlight is on View Backup and Recover (VBR) for Centera, a backup and recovery application purpose-built to add a layer of protection to data stored on EMC Centera storage systems.

Because of the proprietary method used to store data on an EMC Centera, the backup and recovery process has created a complex and unique set of challenges, and traditional backup applications such as ArcServe, Veritas, and NetBackup cannot be used to backup data from, or recover data back to a Centera device.

Although Centera-to-Centera replication will provide business continuity in the event of a site disaster, replication does NOT provide the ability to recover data back to a point in time, so application errors, microcode failures within the device, and accidental or intentional record deletions WILL replicate to the secondary Centera, causing unrecoverable data corruption and/or data loss on BOTH devices.

Designed specifically for backup and recovery of EMC Centera, VBR performs C-Clip and object-level replication from Centera to any disk-based or optical-based network target, providing the ability to recover Centera content back to a "point in time", while maintaining data authenticity for corporate governance and regulatory compliance laws.
